Position: Patient Support Program Nurse (Oncology)

Position Purpose:
The Oncology Patient Support Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care in the community setting that assists patients to achieve optimum health and quality of life in situations of chronic disease. The Patient Support Nurse is responsible for the provision and management of effective nursing care to individuals and/or families in the community or inpatient Support Programs, combining advanced clinical practice, patient education, and community engagement.. The Patient Support Nurse will play a key role in designing and implementing training, patient-centered initiatives, and quality improvement projects across multiple focus areas. The Nurse works in adherence to the Policies and Procedures set by Axios International and works in accordance with established standards of nursing practices according to local and international rules and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Based on the agreed-upon services and workflow, the Patient Support Nurse provides skilled nursing services in accordance with the orders of a physician and under a plan of care. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Place the patient at the center of every interaction — listen carefully, respect their preferences, involve them in decisions, and provide care with dignity and compassion.
- Deliver and coordinate patient and HCP education programs across various clinical specialties.
- Support the development of workshops, microlearning modules, and experiential learning activities.
- Assist in designing and implementing care pathways that improve treatment adherence and patient outcomes.
- Provide input into the creation of evidence-based protocols and patient resources.
- Enhance patient communication strategies and promote culturally competent care.
- Facilitate training for staff on emotional intelligence, active listening, and shared decision-making.
- Participate in patient-experience improvement projects, including patient journey mapping and co-design activities.
- Support the development of nurse-led innovation and research projects.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to plan, implement, and evaluate healthcare projects.
- Coordinate with national and international nursing associations and professional bodies.
- Assist with continuing professional development (CPD) accreditation processes.
- Stay updated with global best practices and integrate them into local programs.
- Conduct initial home assessments, review medical history, evaluate the home environment, and develop individualized care plans.
- Perform regular telephonic or virtual follow-ups to monitor progress and adjust care plans as needed.
- Monitor vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation) and blood glucose levels.
- Administer medications safely via multiple routes (oral, IV, IM, SC injections, infusions, inhalations, rectal) and monitor for side effects.
- Manage pain using validated scales and support both acute and chronic pain interventions.
- Provide wound care (assessment, dressing changes, infection prevention) and basic cardiac assessments.
- Operate and teach patients/families about home medical equipment (glucometers, oxygen therapy, infusion pumps).
- Educate and counsel patients and families on disease management, treatment adherence, and self-care strategies.
- Provide health education and emotional support to caregivers, including mental health/depression screenings and referrals when needed.
- Promote lifestyle modifications, safety measures, and infection control practices in the home.
- Act as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
- Refer to community services and specialist care when appropriate.
- Document all care activities accurately and maintain confidentiality in compliance with regulations.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and advocate for patients’ rights and needs.
- Attending and completing Pharmacovigilance, Pharma, and Product Training provided by the Client, with a clear understanding of how to collect and report safety data
- Reporting any adverse events/product complaints as per the client’s requirements and/or Axios SOPPs
- Conduct all program activities through exclusive use of Axios’ Patient Management System (PMS)
- Additional duties as assigned
Educational Background and Experience:
- A BS Degree in Nursing is essential
- At least 2 years of working experience in a healthcare setting, ideally with Oncology Patients
- Must be a licensed nurse with evidence from the Ministry of Health/DHA/DOH and be enrolled in the syndicate of nurses in the UAE.
- Excellent command of English with a demonstrated clinical nursing knowledge and experience in providing direct patient care
- Experience in Oncology is essential
Job Circumstances:
- The position is based in our regional office, and it does entail frequent travel to Clients and partners, which may be outside your designated region
- Flexibility in the ability to travel, as well as working hours, is essential
